Student life at the Institute
A Students’ Gymkhana Council co-ordinates student activities. Members are elected by direct elections. Faculty advisors assist the Student Body. Co-curricular activities are an integral part of a student’s life in IIITG. Our monsoon and winter semesters are abuzz with sports, cultural and a technical fest – INVICTA, YUVAAN and ENTROPY respectively. Students compete in Outdoor sports (Football, Cricket, Kabaddi, Volleyball, etc.), Indoor sports (Chess, Carom, Badminton, Table Tennis, Arm-Wrestling, etc.), Cultural events (Singing, Dance, Play, Quiz, Painting, etc.) and a Technical events (Coding Competition, Technical Quiz, Robotics Competition, E-sports, Technical Treasure Hunt, etc.). Apart from these sports, cultural and technical fest, there is an annual Welfare Board event "SANKALP" which includes session on mental health awareness, environment and sustainability engagement, community welfare activities such as cleanliness, sanitation drives, plantation , blood donation, etc. Students can explore urban life surrounding the institute in Guwahati. Clubs under Technical Board, Cultural Board, Sports Board and Welfare Board in IIITG
In IIITG, the students are encouraged to actively participate in co-curricular clubs and activities along with their campus regular study. Each student club is advised by a faculty/staff members here on campus. Currently, there are total 19 different clubs in 4 boards: Programming Club, TechnoCrats - Robotics Club, Mavericks - The Machine Learning Society, Google Developer Student Club in Technical Board, Literary Club, Fine Arts Club, Reading Club, Photography Club, Movie Club, Music Club, Drama Club, Quiz Club and Dance Club in Cultural Board, Outdoor Sports Club, Indoor Sports Club and Marketing & Design Club in Sports Board, Health Club, Eco & Outreach Club and Girls' Empowerment Group (GEG) in Welfare Board. Through these clubs the students experience a broad array of cultural, academic, technical and social activities. For instance, the Programming Club allows the students to explore their computer programming skills in the field of computer science and IT to develop a sense of professionalism. The Robotics Club gives a student to conceptualize his idea and design state-of-the-art prototypes in the field of robotics following the international standards. Certainly, the student form concern clubs takes part in different competition on national and international level regularly.
ANNUAL FESTIVALS OF FOUR DIFFERENT BOARDS
UNDER TECHNICAL BOARD:
ENTROPY:
Entropy is the annual technical festival of the Indian Institute of Information Technology Guwahati (IIIT Guwahati). It is organized by the Technical Board during the Monsoon Semester.
The festival brings together students, innovators and technology enthusiasts for a celebration of learning, creativity and technical excellence. Conducted over two to three days, Entropy features a wide range of competitions and activities. These include coding contests, robotics challenges, e-sports tournaments, technical quizzes, treasure hunts, workshops and hackathons. The events encourage innovation, teamwork and practical problem-solving.
Entropy also provided platform for participants to explore emerging technologies and exchange ideas with peers. Through its diverse offerings, the festival promotes technical curiosity and collaborative learning.
The evenings feature cultural programmes organized in collaboration with the Cultural Board. These programmes showcase the talents of the IIIT Guwahati student community. They also include performances by invited artists and performers.
By combining technology, innovation and culture, Entropy offers a unique and enriching experience. It remains one of the most anticipated events in the Institute's annual calendar.
UNDER CULTURAL BOARD:
YUVAAN:
YUVAAN is the annual cultural festival of the Indian Institute of Information Technology Guwahati (IIIT Guwahati) and stands as one of the most vibrant and eagerly awaited events in the Institute's calendar. YUVAAN, the cultural festival provides a dynamic platform for students to explore and showcase their talents beyond the academic sphere.
The festival celebrates the diverse cultural spirit of the Institute by bringing together students through a wide range of events encompassing music, drama, literature, fine arts, quizzes, gaming and other recreational activities. It encourages students to express their creativity, nurture their artistic abilities and engage in healthy competition and collaboration.
YUVAAN serves as more than just a cultural celebration; it is an avenue for fostering leadership, teamwork and innovation and interpersonal skills. Students actively participate not only as performers and competitors but also as organizers, gaining valuable experience in event planning, coordination, communication and management. The festival thus contributes significantly to the holistic development of students and enriches campus life at IIIT Guwahati.

BOHAGI:
Bohagi in IIIT Guwahati is the Rongali Bihu and Assamese New Year event which is celebrated with great enthusiasm to mark the arrival of spring season. As one of the most cherished cultural events of the Institute, Bohagi provides a vibrant platform to honour the rich traditions, music, dance and heritage of Assam while fostering a spirit of unity and inclusiveness within the campus community.
The celebration reflects the Institute's commitment to preserving and promoting the cultural identity of the region in which it is situated. Through a variety of performances and activities, Bohagi brings together students, faculty, staff members and guests to experience the joy and vibrancy associated with the festival of Bohag. Traditional Bihu dance and Husori performances, folk music, cultural showcases, musical evenings, fashion presentations featuring ethnic attire and performances by members of the Institute Community form an integral part of the celebrations.
Bohagi also serves as a platform for students to showcase their artistic talents, creativity and organizational abilities. The active involvement of students in planning and conducting the events helps develop leadership, teamwork and event management skills, contributing to their holistic growth beyond academics. The participation of faculty members, staff and invited artists further strengthens the sense of belonging and camaraderie across the Institute.
More than a festive occasion, Bohagi represents a celebration of cultural exchange and community spirit. IIIT GUWAHATI MODEL UNITED NATIONS (IIITG MUN):
The IIIT Guwahati Model United Nations (IIITG MUN) is the Institute's flagship academic conference, bringing together students from diverse backgrounds to engage in diplomacy, debate and global problem-solving. Delegates step into the roles of international representatives, negotiating resolutions on contemporary issues while developing public speaking, research and negotiating skills. With carefully curated committees, challenging agendas and an emphasis on respectful discourse, IIITG MUN fosters critical thinking, collaboration and leadership, creating an environment where ideas are debated, perspectives are broadened and future leaders are shaped.
UNDER SPORTS BOARD
INVICTA:
INVICTA is the annual sports fest of the Indian Institute of Information Technology Guwahati (IIIT Guwahati) and one of the most eagerly awaited events in the Institute's calendar. Organized with the objective of promoting sportsmanship, physical fitness, teamwork and healthy competition, the fest provides students with a dynamic platform to showcase their athletic talents and competitive spirit. Featuring a diverse range of indoor and outdoor sporting events such as badminton, table tennis, chess, carrom, football, cricket, volleyball, kabaddi, tug of war, etc., INVICTA caters to students with varied sporting interests and abilities. The fest also encourages broad-based participation through fun engagement activities and informal competitions, ensuring that students from all backgrounds can be a part of the celebrations.
More than a sporting event, INVICTA serves as an avenue for fostering leadership, discipline, perseverance, strategic thinking and team spirit among students. The planning and execution of the fest provide valuable organizational and managerial experience to the student volunteers and committees involved, nurturing a sense of responsibility and collaboration. The event culminates in a prize distribution ceremony where winners and runners-up are recognized for their achievements through medals, certificates and accolades. Over the years, the annual sports fest has evolved into an integral component of campus life in IIIT Guwahati, strengthening the Institute's sporting culture, promoting holistic well-being and creating lasting memories of friendship, enthusiasm and collective achievement.
UNDER WELFARE BOARD
SANKALP:
Sankalp is the flagship annual welfare event of Indian Institute of Information Technology Guwahati (IIIT Guwahati), bringing together students, faculty members, staff and their families in a vibrant celebration of learning, well-being and community engagement. Sankalp is a much awaited platform that combines meaningful social awareness with recreation, creativity and collective participation.
At its core, Sankalp seeks to promote holistic well-being by addressing issues that are central to contemporary society. The event features expert talks, panel discussions, interactive workshops and awareness sessions on themes such as mental health and emotional well-being, environmental conservation and sustainability, community welfare, healthy lifestyles and social responsibility. These sessions provide participants with opportunities to engage with practitioners, researchers, activists and professionals working in diverse fields.
Beyond its educational dimension, Sankalp offers a lively and inclusive atmosphere through a wide range of activities designed to foster interaction and strengthen community bonds. Participants enjoy fun games, competitions, interactive exhibits, student- and faculty-run food stalls, cultural performances, creative showcases, talent displays, a magic show, invited artists' performances and family-friendly recreational activities. The event creates a unique space where learning and enjoyment go hand in hand, encouraging meaningful connections across generations and communities.
A distinctive feature of Sankalp is its commitment to collaboration with leading civil society organizations and public service Institutions. The event regularly partners with organizations such as Aaranyak, a renowned nature conservation organization; Vivekananda Kendra Institute of Culture; YourDost, a mental health and wellness platform; Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH); and several other organizations working in the fields of health, education, environment sustainability and community development. Through dedicated stalls, exhibitions, demonstrations and outreach activities, these organizations showcase their work and engage participants in conversations on pressing social and environmental challenges.
Sankalp serves as a bridge between academia and society, creating opportunities for dialogue, awareness and collaborative action. By bringing together diverse stakeholders, it nurtures a culture of empathy, social responsibility, environmental consciousness and community service. More than just an event, Sankalp is a collective commitment to building a healthier, more sustainable and socially engaged community.
Hostel Life
Student hostels are located on campus. The boys’ hostel has a capacity of 680 and girls’ hostel has a capacity of 170. Each hostel has common rooms where students can play board games and watch TV. Beyond the class hours, students can explore wide open spaces on campus and indulge in outdoor games. Wardens visit the hostels regularly to monitor and ensure proper functioning of the hostels and comfort of the students. Major discussions and activities among the students can be carried out in the common room. Timings are strictly adhered to for the entry and exit of students for their safety. Ample green cover all around the residential area provides a visually appealing and healthy environment for the residents. Different festivals and cultural events are celebrated together within the hostel in a very friendly and homely atmosphere.

Student Accommodation
There is a Boys’ hostel which can accommodate 680 students and a Girls’ hostel which can accommodate 170 students. Students will either be in a double room with toilet facilities shared among 8 double rooms, or in smaller double rooms with a double-decker bed, but with an attached bathroom. Each hostel has a common Dining Space, Recreation room and manned with 24x7 security and backed with 24-hour power backup supply and lift-service. The hostel complex is connected to the Institute by National Knowledge Network (NKN). Also, IIIT Guwahati has empanelled two Paying guest accomodation.
Campus-Network
IIITG provides 24x7 campus wide connectivity to its community. On campus, students can access high-speed (1 Gbps) LAN and Wi-fi. IIITG is part of National Knowledge Network (NKN), which ensures 1 Gbps connection.
Laboratories
Labs are of immense importance to study core engineering subjects like computer science or electronics and communication. At IIITG, the labs are well equipped with state-of-the art equipment and latest hi-tech gadgets. The lab assistants are experienced and guide the students with competence through both curriculum and research work. Our labs foster an atmosphere of independent research under the guidance of instructors. Further, students are allowed to perform experiments individually or in a group of two.
Library
The IIITG library is stocked with a good number of books and online journals to cater to the needs of the students, research scholars and faculty members of IIITG. The Library currently has 1,214 printed volume of Books and subscribes to the IEEE, ACM and JSTOR e-journal packages through which the users can get access to 218 journals (approx.) and 3698 conference proceedings (approx.). Users can access these online resources in their electronic devices i.e. laptops, tablets etc. since the library is Wi-Fi enabled. The library has a spacious and well-lit reading room. It fosters an atmosphere for academic learning and ensures a decorum of discipline, so that the students can concentrate their entire focus on learning.
Dining and Mess
There are mess facilities in the hostels as well as at the Institute. Canteens provide students with fresh and nutritious food. They cater to the need of both vegetarian and non-vegetarian students. There are appropriate and fixed timings for dining in hostels.
Financial Assistance
