Applications are invited for
admission to the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) program in the Department of Electronics
and Communication Engineering (ECE) of IIIT Guwahati in the following areas of

ELIGIBILITY
Applicant must fulfil the following criteria:
i)
Master’s degree in Engineering/Technology in the relevant area with a minimum
Cumulative Performance Index (CPI) of 6.5 or 60% of marks.
OR
ii) MSc (Electronics) or Equivalent Master’s
Degrees with a minimum Cumulative Performance Index(CPI) of 6.5 or 60% marks
with a GATE/NET/SLET score for ECE Department.
OR
iii) Four-year Bachelor’s degree in
Engineering/Technology/Medical Sciences or equivalent in a relevant area with a
minimum CPI of 7.0 or 65% of marks.
RESERVATIONS
(SC, ST, OBC (Non-creamy layer), and
PD categories): Eligibility criteria will be relaxed by 5% marks or 0.5 CPI for
SC/ST/PD applicants. The reservation is as per the GOI rules. OBC (Non-creamy
layer) candidates will have to enclose a certificate and self-declaration
statement as per the format at Annexure-I & Annexure-II. The OBC (NCL)
Certificate, issued by the competent authority, shall only be acceptable.
FELLOWSHIP
For
GATE/NET/SLET candidates, Emoluments of a maximum amount of ₹37,000 per month for the duration of
the first two years and ₹42,000 per
month for the third year of the project as per ANRF Norms. Without GATE/NET/SLET
candidates, Emoluments of a maximum amount of ₹31,000 per month for the duration of the first two years and ₹35,000 per month for the third year of
the project. After the project ends, the student
will receive support from the Institute fellowship as per the Institute's
norms.
THE SCHEDULE AND THE PROGRAMME
- Admissions will be held based
on applications received. The last date for receiving the application will
be 18.08.2025 (Monday)
- Date of Selection in Online Mode: 25.08.2025 (Monday)
- Shortlisting will be done based on the
academic performance of the candidates. A
candidate merely fulfilling the eligibility criteria may not be
shortlisted.
- There
is no application fee.
- Course
Requirements, if any, will be prescribed by individual Departments.
- There
will be a written comprehensive examination after admission to determine
if the student is ready to take up research work and to determine if the
student has sufficient breadth of knowledge in the discipline he/she has
been admitted to.

*A
candidate needs to pay the hostel and mess fees only when a student joins a
hostel. Hostel rent will be charged on a pro-rata basis (semester of 6 months
with a charge of ₹13,750/- for the whole semester) based on when the student
joins a hostel with an advance mess fee of ₹24000/- for 6 months.
