Applications are invited for a Junior Research Fellow (JRF) cum PhD in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) at IIIT Guwahati in the following area of research:

Fellowship from ANRF (for 3 Years). After that, an assistantship will be provided through an Institute fellowship.

*The PhD research topic will be decided jointly by the PhD supervisor and the student.

 

ELIGIBILITY

 Applicant must fulfill the following criteria:

i) Master’s degree in Engineering/Technology in the relevant area of CSE with a minimum Cumulative Performance Index (CPI) of 6.5 or 60% of marks.

OR

 ii) MSc(Computer Science) or Equivalent Master’s Degrees in the relevant area of Computer Science with a minimum Cumulative Performance Index(CPI) of 6.5 or 60% marks with a GATE/NET/SLET score.

OR

 iii) Four-year Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology in CSE or equivalent in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.0 or 65% of marks.

AND

GATE or NET Qualification is required.

 

 

RESERVATIONS

(SC, ST, OBC (Non-creamy layer) and PD categories): Eligibility criteria will be relaxed by 5% marks or 0.5 CPI for SC/ST/PD applicants. Reservation is as per GOI rules. OBC (Non-creamy layer) candidates will have to enclose a certificate and self-declaration statement as per the format at Annexure-I & Annexure-II. The OBC (NCL) Certificate, issued by the competent authority on or after 01-06-2019, shall only be acceptable.

 

FELLOWSHIP

Emoluments of a maximum amount of ₹37,000 per month for the duration of the first two years and ₹42,000 per month for the third year of the project as per ANRF Norms. After the project ends, the student will receive Institute fellowship as per the Institute's norms.

 

THE SCHEDULE AND THE PROGRAMME

 

  1. Admissions will be held based on applications received. The last date for receiving the application will be 8.08.2025 (Friday) 
  1. Date of Selection in Online Mode: 18-08-2025 (Monday). 
  1. Shortlisting will be done based on the academic performance of the candidates. A candidate merely fulfilling the eligibility criteria may not be shortlisted. 
  1. There is no application fee. 
  1. Course Requirements, if any, will be prescribed by individual Departments. However, students will be encouraged to take courses. The Doctoral Committee of a student will evaluate the preparedness of a student and prescribe one or more courses that will have to be taken. 
  1. There will be a written comprehensive examination after admission to determine if the student is ready to take up research work and to determine if the student has sufficient breadth of knowledge in the discipline he/she has been admitted to.

*The candidate needs to pay the hostel and mess fees only when a student joins a hostel. Hostel rent will be charged on a pro-rata basis (semester of 6 months with a charge of    ₹ 13,750.00 for the whole semester) based on when the student joins a hostel.
