Welcome to the Department of Computer Science & Engineering at
IIIT Guwahati. Established in 2013 with the inception of the institute,
CSE at IIITG has grown into a collegial, research-active unit offering
B.Tech, M.Tech, and Ph.D. programs. We take pride in creating an ambient
academic atmosphere that blends strong fundamentals with
state-of-the-art domains across computer science.
Our curriculum
emphasizes core computing early and encourages interdisciplinary
exploration—preparing students to contribute to AI/ML, systems, data,
security, and human-centered applications. We work closely with industry
and research partners, and we actively support student-led initiatives,
internships, and projects that translate ideas into impact. As Head of Department, my focus is to enable great teaching and mentoring, foster inclusive and collaborative research, and strengthen ties with the region and the nation. I invite prospective students, collaborators, and recruiters to explore our faculty profiles, research groups, and student achievements, and to engage with us as we advance computing for society.

The Department of Computer Science & Engineering at IIIT Guwahati was established in 2013 alongside the institute. It offers B.Tech, M.Tech, and Ph.D. programs designed to create innovators and researchers with a strong grounding in computing fundamentals and exposure to emerging areas. The B.Tech (CSE) begins with computing-oriented courses—while allowing science courses later—so students build depth early and broaden thoughtfully.Teaching and research span algorithms, systems, networks, databases, AI/ML, data science, cybersecurity, cloud and edge computing, and more. The department cultivates an enabling environment—modern curriculum, faculty-led projects, collaborations, and student activities—so learners can grow and excel in multiple spheres. Our vision is to be a department of excellence; our mission includes nurturing quality engineers, imparting state-of-the-art knowledge, conducting cutting-edge research, collaborating with R&D and industry, and providing ICT consultancy.
